CANDLE SAFETY & TIPS

Avoid excessive burn time, no more than 4 hours is recommended.

Trim the wick to 1/4 " tall before every burn to keep the wax clean and burning nicely

Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable objects. Do not burn on wood as the candle jar can heat up and cause a burn on non heat resistant surfaces.

Never leave a burning candle unattended

Candles with dried flowers: please remove or cut down as close to wax level as possible prior to burning

Keep out of reach of pets and children

Crystals can be left in or taken out prior to burning. Watch the crystal is not in direct flame. If you notice your flame is not burning fully, it's best to remove the crystals and light the candle without obstruction.

Allow candle to melt to the edge of the vessel. This prevents future tunneling

STOP BURNING WHEN THERE IS LESS THAN 1/4" OF WAX LEFT IN THE GLASS - When the majority of the wax has been consumed, the flame will heat the container making the bottom of the jar hot. To prevent possible heat damage to your container and surface, stop burning after only 1/4" of your candle is left.

This is the common term for "polymorphism" and describes the white coating that appears on your soy candles. What causes it? Frosting is a perfectly natural effect of using soy wax and is unique to vegetable waxes, especially soy. It is the natural wax re-crystallizing. All soy waxes frost to some degree and is a sign that you are using 100% natural soy wax. It is more noticeable with colored candles. Please be aware that frosting on your candles does not in any way affect the performance of the candle.

Don't sweat it. although uncommon, If you find liquid on the top of your candle wax, this just means the fragrance is sweating. This is due to the generous amount of fragrance we load in each of our candles, giving you a little extra love.

If you find air bubbles in your candle, this is simply caused by surrounding temperature changes and will not affect your candle's lifespan or diffusion.

We choose to work with soy wax for a variety of reasons. We love that it's an 100% renewable resource and carbon neutral. We love that it burns more cleanly - and better yet - for a longer period of time than paraffin. We love the way soy wax smells mixed with a good fragrance. Soy candles are better for the environment and your health: they are non-toxic and burn cleaner than paraffin wax. It produces as much as 90% less soot than paraffin wax. This soot can blacken walls, ceilings, and furniture, contaminate ventilation ductwork in your home, and most importantly, add toxic carcinogens into the air that you breathe.

All our fragrances are phthalate free. Phthalates are used to dissolve raw materials in apothecary goods, medicine, and fragrances. Recently there has been concern linking high levels of phthalates to health issues, especially in children. While there are no regulations against phthalate use in candles, we decided not to work with fragrances with phthalates in them.

We find that our candles fill a medium-size room nicely. For larger rooms or rooms with high ceilings we recommend our  16oz candles or 2 or more 12 oz. Smaller candles are better burned at a desk or in a small space such as a bathroom. Because we use natural soy wax, our candles will not have the same scent throw as paraffin candles. We like that our candles are not overwhelming, but rather can be used every day.

1) The first burn is the most important - how to do it right

Give your candle enough burning time to develop a melted wax pool that goes all the way to the edge of the container on the first use - this can take up to a few hours, depending on candle size.

Believe it or not, your jar candles have a kind of “wax-memory,” and once a burning pattern has been established, it can be hard to change.

If you don’t allow your candle enough time to form a full melt pool on the first burn, a little depression or “tunnel” may start to form around the wick.

This will make it more difficult for the wax around the edges of the jar to melt, causing the tunneling effect to continue with each burn.

Eventually the tunnel will become too deep for fresh oxygen to flow in, and your candle will have trouble staying lit for more than short periods of time.

2) Keep your wood wick trimmed short and free of charred bits

For optimal burn, keep your wood wick trimmed to about ⅛”, and clean off any burnt wood from previous use.

Other than the tunneling problem, if your wood wick candle won’t stay lit it’s probably because the wick is too long, or it needs to be trimmed clean of charred material.

Remember it’s not the wood fueling your candle’s flame, it’s the wax. The flame is drawing the wax upwards through the wick, so if it’s not trimmed short and clean, the wax can’t make it to the flame.

For optimal burn, keep your wood wick trimmed to about ⅛” - this is shorter than you might think the wick should be - around the width of the metal part of a USB drive. You’ll also want to clean off any charred bits.

For trimming, we’ve always found an old set of nail clippers or wire cutters to work great. In a pinch, you can always use a napkin and your fingers to gently break off the burnt parts of the wick.

Just make sure to let your candle cool before trimming, as you don’t want any bits of ash or wick material left in the wax when you’re done. It’s much easier to clean this up when the wax is hard and cool!

3. If you have a crystal candle, your crystals may be too big or too close to the wick

With our ritual candles, occasionally we run in to issues where the crystals are just too big and don't allow enough oxygen to reach the flame. If this is the case, just simply pull the crystals out of the wax and then light your candle again. Make sure the wick is trimmed to 1/4" for best burn results.
